Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany sent a powerful warning to their rivals by netting seven goals against Curaçao. The heavy win ensured there would be no repeat of their recent World Cup failures. Germany had crashed out at the group stage in the previous two tournaments. This time, they look certain to reach the knockout phase.

The match took place in Houston, where the giant stadium could hold half of Curaçao’s entire population. Around 7,000 supporters made the trip from the small Caribbean island. They created an electric atmosphere before kick-off. For these fans, simply qualifying for the World Cup finals was a huge achievement. Getting out of Group E would be an even bigger miracle.

Curaçao’s coach, Dick Advocaat, set a new record as the oldest manager in World Cup history. He picked a brave attacking team with three forwards. This tactic carried big risks against the European giants. Deveron Fonville led an early charge but German midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic stopped him firmly.

Germany opened the scoring after 15 minutes. Jamal Musiala saw his shot blocked, but Felix Nmecha kept the move alive. Nmecha passed to Florian Wirtz before receiving the ball back. He curled a powerful strike into the net from 16 yards. Goalkeeper Eloy Room stood still as the ball flew past him.

The German team continued to press forward. Nmecha fired just wide shortly after his opener. Leroy Sané also missed the target from close range. Both Nmecha and Wirtz tested the keeper again before Curaçao could mount a serious attack.

Against the run of play, the underdogs struck back. Jürgen Locadia seized on a loose ball after poor defending from Nico Schlotterbeck. His shot was blocked, but Livano Comenencia followed up. The midfielder drove a low shot past Manuel Neuer with a slight deflection. The Curaçao players celebrated wildly as they recorded a historic World Cup moment.

The game paused for a three-minute hydration break despite the stadium roof keeping temperatures at 22 degrees. This interruption killed Curaçao’s momentum. A Mariachi band played in the corner during the stoppage, confusing many supporters.

Germany restored their advantage after 17 minutes. Nico Schlotterbeck headed in Nathaniel Brown’s corner completely unmarked. Earlier, Room had saved well from another Schlotterbeck header. The Curaçao defence worked hard to block shots from Pavlovic and Fonville. However, they could not stop the central defender’s glancing header.

Just before half-time, Germany earned a penalty. Nmecha ran powerfully from midfield and Riechedly Bazoer tripped him inside the box. Kai Havertz stepped up and calmly rolled the ball into the net. This gave Germany a comfortable 3-1 lead at the break.

The second half began disastrously for Curaçao. Within 68 seconds, Joshua Kimmich played a clever pass to Jamal Musiala. The young attacker cut inside and finished sharply past Room. The score became 4-1 and effectively ended the contest.

Nathaniel Brown added a fifth goal with a beautiful volley from Deniz Undav’s flick. Undav, who came off the bench, then scored himself from close range after Jearl Margaritha nearly pulled one back for Curaçao. Havertz completed the scoring with a delicate chip over the keeper. The forward now has two goals in the tournament.

Before the match, speculation linked Jürgen Klopp with the Germany manager’s job. This created some pre-match tension for Nagelsmann. However, the current coach answered his critics with this dominant display.

Despite the heavy loss, the Curaçao supporters sang until the final whistle. Their ‘blue wave’ of fans had travelled thousands of miles to support their team. Germany will face tougher challenges in the next round, but this performance showed their attacking power. Six different scorers found the net, proving their strength across the pitch. Nagelsmann will hope his team stay this sharp when the competition gets harder.
