Tusker FC claimed the FKF Cup trophy on Sunday evening after edging out Kenya Police 2-1 in a tense final at Kwale Stadium. Ian Simiyu emerged as the hero for the brewers, finding the back of the net twice to secure the silverware.
The law enforcers controlled the ball for long periods and looked dangerous in attack through Yves Koutiama. However, Tusker struck first against the run of play. In the 24th minute, Fabian Adikiny slipped a pass to Simiyu, who unleashed a powerful left-footed drive from just outside the penalty area. The shot flew past Police goalkeeper Daniel Ogembo and into the goal.
Kenya Police responded swiftly. Three minutes later, Aboud Omar curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner after Koutiama had been brought down by Eugene Ikutwa. The Harambee Stars defender beat Tusker keeper Pavel Ndziva from distance to level the scores at 1-1.
The brewers restored their advantage in the 31st minute. Following a rapid throw-in routine, Simiyu collected the ball on the left side and fired past the advancing Ogembo to make it 2-1.
After the break, Police pushed hard for another equaliser. They introduced Clinton Kinanga, whose aerial threat caused problems for the Tusker defence. Yet the brewers held firm, absorbing pressure and protecting their lead until the final whistle.
The triumph marks Tusker’s first domestic cup success since 2016 and caps a remarkable turnaround under French coach Julien Mette, who took charge earlier this year. The win also guarantees the club a place in the upcoming CAF Confederations Cup campaign.
