AS Roma have given West Ham United until Tuesday to respond to their renewed offer for winger Crysencio Summerville, with the transfer now reportedly held up only by negotiations over agent commission. The Serie A side are pushing to conclude the deal swiftly after previous bids were rejected.
Fee Agreement Reached
According to Corriere dello Sport reporter Eleonora Trotta, the clubs have settled on a total package worth €50 million, structured as a €45 million fixed fee plus €5 million in performance-related bonuses. This meets West Ham’s asking price following their relegation from the Premier League in the 2025-26 campaign, and represents a significant profit on the €29.3 million they paid Leeds United to sign the Dutch international in 2024.
Earlier proposals from the Giallorossi had fallen short, with figures between €44 million and €46 million deemed insufficient by the Londoners. The revised offer bridges that gap, leaving intermediary payments as the final obstacle to completion.
Conflicting Reports on Terms
Sources differ regarding the player’s contractual status. While Trotta claims Summerville has agreed basic personal terms with Roma, earlier reports from transfer specialist Matteo Moretto suggested only that the 24-year-old was open to the move, with specific salary details not yet finalised. What remains clear is that the primary sticking point has shifted from the transfer fee to the distribution of commissions among representatives.
Release Clause Uncertainty
Confusion persists over whether Summerville’s contract contains a formal relegation release clause. Sportitalia claim any clause would expire within 24 hours and is set below €50 million, while Sport Mediaset value it at €53 million. Conversely, Sky Sport Italia insist no formal release mechanism exists. Moretto describes the arrangement as “less a clause, more a pact” triggered by West Ham’s demotion.
Roma, who qualified for the Champions League by finishing third in Serie A, can offer Summerville elite European football. West Ham, meanwhile, require clarity to reshape their squad for an immediate Championship promotion push. A decision is expected within the next 48 hours.
