Hamburger SV have reached an agreement with Patson Daka, with the Zambia international set to undergo his medical on Tuesday, 21 July before signing for the Bundesliga club. The 27-year-old striker will join the Hanseatic side on a free transfer following his departure from Leicester City, agreeing to a contract that runs until 2027 with an option for an additional 12 months.
The deal marks a swift resolution to negotiations that had seen the German club pushing to secure the forward’s signature. Daka became available without a transfer fee when his Leicester contract expired at the end of last season, ending a five-year association with the English side.
Leicester City tenure
Leicester originally invested €30 million to acquire Daka from Austrian champions RB Salzburg five years ago, hoping to harness the prolific form he had displayed in the Bundesliga. Across his time at the King Power Stadium, the Zambian featured 165 times in all competitions, contributing 29 goals and 18 assists.
His final campaign with the Foxes proved challenging, with the striker managing five goals and four assists across 41 Championship appearances as the club navigated financial difficulties and eventual relegation from the Premier League. Despite these struggles, he maintained his status as a regular for the Zambia national team throughout his spell in England.
Versatile addition for HSV
Daka offers flexibility across the frontline, capable of operating as a central striker, on either flank, or in an attacking midfield role. This versatility appeals to HSV as they seek to bolster their offensive options without paying a transfer fee.
The move represents a return to German-speaking football for the forward, who previously enjoyed trophy-laden success in Salzburg before his switch to the Premier League. Following the medical, he is expected to link up with the squad at the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria, allowing him to integrate with his new teammates ahead of the competitive campaign.
At 27, Daka arrives with significant experience at both club and international level. His availability on a free transfer has attracted interest from several markets, but HSV have moved decisively to secure his services. The timing of the agreement allows the striker to participate in the remainder of pre-season preparations, giving him valuable weeks to adapt to the team’s tactical approach before the Bundesliga campaign begins.
