Mika Godts has admitted that talks with Paris Saint-Germain are progressing as the Belgian winger faces an uncertain future at Ajax. The 21-year-old revealed negotiations with the reigning double European champions are active, though he reaffirmed his commitment to the Dutch club until any transfer is finalised.
Transfer talks admitted
Godts made the admission following his unexpected omission from Ajax’s starting lineup for Sunday’s Eredivisie fixture against PEC Zwolle. The Belgium international eventually appeared as a second-half substitute, providing an assist in a display that took his tally to three in four matches this season. However, his initial benching sparked intense speculation that a move to the French capital was imminent.
Regarding the PSG link, Godts confirmed discussions are active but refused to elaborate on specifics. Speaking to ESPN, he stated: “There are talks. I’m not going to say it isn’t true, because then nobody would take me seriously anymore.”
Fitness concerns clarified
The player’s agent, Niels De Jonck, moved swiftly to explain the decision, citing physical workload rather than transfer wrangling. Speaking to De Telegraaf, De Jonck described the situation as “simply a case of overwork” and emphasised the desire to avoid risking the young forward.
Godts corroborated this account in his ESPN interview, revealing he had sustained a minor injury in training. “I felt a slight niggle yesterday in training,” he said. “I’m still feeling a little too much discomfort” in my hamstrings.
Addressing suggestions he had refused to play amid the transfer saga, Godts issued a firm denial. “If I really didn’t want to play, I wouldn’t have played in the last two matches either. We need to put an end to this rumour. I love Ajax. I grew up here and I’m happy to still be able to play for Ajax,” he added.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Godts insisted his focus remains on his current employers. “Until an agreement is reached, I’ll play every minute I’m called upon to play for Ajax,” he affirmed.
The winger has enjoyed a remarkable start to the 2026-27 campaign, form which has drawn admiring glances from the Parc des Princes. With the summer transfer window remaining open, the situation appears fluid, though Godts’s immediate availability for selection suggests any departure remains contingent upon formal agreement between the clubs.
