AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara has addressed the dramatic breakdown of his proposed transfer to Chelsea on the recent deadline day, stating he has now “turned the page” on the aborted move.
A deal had reportedly been struck between Chelsea and AS Monaco for the 22-year-old’s transfer to the Premier League club. However, the move ultimately collapsed when the French club decided to renege on the agreement on the final day of the transfer window.
Deadline Day Complications
The decision by AS Monaco to pull out of the deal for Camara was reportedly linked to another significant transfer saga involving his teammate, Folarin Balogun. Balogun’s anticipated move to Everton also fell through on the same deadline day. Consequently, with both potential departures failing to materialise, Camara and Balogun remained at the Stade Louis II.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro had previously confirmed that Camara had, at the time, asked the club to facilitate his move to Stamford Bridge. However, Camara has since indicated a shift in focus, telling reporters that he has moved past the disappointment and is now concentrating on his current club.
Teammate Support
Camara also revealed that he discussed the transfer saga with teammates the day after the window closed, notably with former Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria. Zakaria, who has experience playing for top clubs, reportedly offered advice and support, helping Camara to refocus on his commitments with Monaco, noting that “these things happen” in football.
Despite the deadline day disappointment, Lamine Camara continues to be an integral part of the AS Monaco squad, with the club’s decision to retain him and Balogun shaping their immediate future in the league.
