Borussia Dortmund‘s managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, has underlined the club’s strong desire to retain striker Serhou Guirassy for the long term. This statement comes amidst ongoing transfer speculation, including reports linking the Guinea international with a move to Manchester United.
Guirassy, who is under contract with Dortmund until 2028, has been a subject of transfer rumours almost since his arrival. However, Ricken clarified the club’s position, stating that the player has not expressed any desire to leave.
Dortmund’s Stance on Guirassy
Addressing the persistent speculation, Ricken told Sport Bild, "In Serhou’s case, speculation about a possible departure began almost as soon as we signed him. I can say that there has never been a conversation with him or his representatives in which he expressed a desire to leave us."
Ricken emphasised the mutual understanding between the club and the player. "He knows what he has at our club, and we know what we have in him," he added. Dortmund’s summer signings are also intended to further integrate Guirassy into the team’s attacking play, with Ricken expressing confidence that this will become increasingly evident on the pitch.
Broader Retention Strategy
Beyond Guirassy, Borussia Dortmund is also focused on securing the futures of other key players. Ricken confirmed the club’s intention to retain goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, defender Waldemar Anton, and full-back Julian Ryerson. Like Guirassy, all three players are currently under contract until 2028.
The club aims to continue working with these players under appropriate financial conditions, indicating a clear strategy to maintain core talent within the squad for the coming seasons.
