Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior has explained his animated post-match celebration in front of RC Strasbourg Alsace supporters, which led to a confrontation with opposition players. Rosenior stated that a “small number” of Strasbourg fans had insulted his family during Paris FC’s 2-1 victory over his former club.
The incident occurred after the final whistle at the Stade Jean Bouin on Saturday. Following Paris FC’s win, Rosenior approached the Strasbourg away end to celebrate. This action quickly escalated into a heated exchange with Strasbourg players, who confronted their former manager.
A Contentious Reunion
Rosenior joined Paris FC over the summer, marking a return to French football after a brief and “ill-fated” stint at Chelsea. Before his move to Stamford Bridge, he had managed Strasbourg. His departure from the Alsace club earlier in the year, prompted by Enzo Maresca’s swift exit from Chelsea, was reportedly not well-received, suggesting that “there isn’t a lot of love lost” between him and his former club.
His time at Chelsea did not see him complete the season, leading him to take the helm at Paris FC.
Rosenior’s Justification
In his post-match press conference, Rosenior defended his actions, attributing them to the behaviour of a section of the visiting fans. “A small number, and I insist, a small number, because Strasbourg is a fantastic club, were disrespectful. They insulted my family,” Rosenior explained. “My dugout was very angry. So, for me, celebrating like that was clearly a message. I won’t say anything else on this topic.”
