Roger Schmidt has officially commenced his duties as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, stepping into a pivotal role previously held by Jürgen Klopp. The experienced German coach will now oversee football development across Red Bull’s extensive multi-club structure.
Schmidt’s appointment sees him responsible for strategic football operations across a global network of clubs. This includes German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, Major League Soccer side Red Bull New York, Brazilian club Red Bull Bragantino, and RB Omiya Ardija in Japan.
A New Era for Red Bull Football
The former RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Benfica coach brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His previous managerial roles have seen him lead teams in top European leagues, developing a reputation for an attacking and high-pressing style of play.
In his first few weeks, Schmidt plans to embark on a series of visits to the various clubs within the Red Bull family. These visits are intended for him to meet staff, including coaching teams, sporting directors, and academy leaders, as well as to attend matches and gain a comprehensive understanding of each club’s current situation.
Schmidt expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, noting the unique nature of the Red Bull environment. He stated that the “ambition behind it that makes it so exciting,” and conveyed his eagerness to “get to know the people behind our clubs, understanding how they work, and building the future on foundations that are already strong.”
