AS Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has drawn a line in the sand regarding his position at the Stadio Olimpico. The experienced Italian tactician insists that future campaigns must operate without the internal confusion that has plagued the current term. He maintains that successful management requires absolute freedom to implement personal tactical ideas.

The Giallorossi remain firmly in contention for Champions League qualification following Monday evening’s dominant display. They thrashed Fiorentina 4-0 on home soil, reducing the deficit to fourth-placed Juventus to merely a single point with only three fixtures remaining.

Speaking first to Italian television and later at a formal press conference, Gasperini praised his squad’s resilience. “These lads constantly demonstrate hunger for improvement,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “When external targets appeared absent, we established our own ambitions.”

However, the coach highlighted necessary changes behind the scenes. “Once this season concludes, we require serious dialogue,” he stated. “Past communication breakdowns must not repeat. We need absolute transparency between all parties.”

Recent structural adjustments at the club have already strengthened Gasperini’s hand. Two weeks ago, Roma terminated Senior Advisor Claudio Ranieri’s association with the organisation. Additionally, Sporting Director Frederic Massara anticipates leaving when the campaign ends. Gasperini previously acknowledged frequent philosophical disagreements with the departing executive throughout this term.

The manager issued a direct ultimatum regarding his future. “This squad possesses tremendous quality and unity,” he continued. “It frustrates me when people suggest we deserve merely fifth or sixth position. While I respect everyone’s input, I must work according to my own vision. Should the club demand alternative methods, I would rather find another position elsewhere.”

Attention now shifts to the Rome Derby, scheduled for the penultimate round. Lega Serie A President Ezio Simonelli indicated the clash will likely occur on May 17 at 12:30 CET, though officials await final confirmation. Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has reacted angrily to the lunchtime scheduling, threatening to remain absent from the technical area.

Gasperini dismissed these protests. “Nobody enjoys this kick-off time, but evening fixtures appear impossible,” he explained. “Monday evening would prove even more problematic due to simultaneous match requirements. The weather should remain moderate. Ultimately, Sarri will appear on the bench.”
