Bayern Munich have confirmed that striker Nicolas Jackson will head back to Chelsea at the end of the season. The Belgian forward’s loan spell in Germany is finishing, and the Bundesliga giants will not make the transfer permanent.
Club legend Lothar Matthäus has revealed that manager Vincent Kompany actually wanted to keep the player. Speaking on the show ‘Sky90 – die Fußballdebatte’, Matthäus explained that the Belgian coach rates Jackson very highly.
Matthäus stated: “Kompany is convinced of Jackson, and he would have liked to keep him in Munich. But he is too expensive.” The former Germany captain added that Kompany made his feelings clear inside the club.
The main problem was the transfer fee. Reports suggest Chelsea wanted €65 million for the forward. Bayern Munich decided this amount was too costly for their budget.
Jackson joined Bayern on loan hoping to impress in the Bundesliga. During his time at the Allianz Arena, he found the net 10 times in 33 appearances across all competitions.
Now aged 24, the attacker will return to Stamford Bridge. He will hope to secure a regular place in Chelsea’s squad for the next Premier League campaign.
