FC Schalke 04 are still celebrating their recent promotion to the Bundesliga. Now, the German club looks set to enjoy a second piece of good news. They stand to collect millions from the transfer of a former star player.
Top transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Sporting Lisbon have reached an agreement to sign Rodrigo Zalazar. The Uruguayan will move from their domestic rivals, Sporting Braga. Portuguese outlet ‘A Bola’ suggests the deal is worth approximately €30 million.
When Schalke sold Zalazar to Braga in 2023, the fee was just €6 million. However, the club’s directors at the time negotiated wisely. They included a ten percent sell-on clause in the contract. This clause guarantees Schalke a share of any future transfer profit.
As a result, the Gelsenkirchen club now expects to receive roughly €3 million from this switch. The 26-year-old spent three years with Schalke until 2023. During his spell at the Veltins-Arena, he played 55 matches across all competitions. He scored nine goals and created 13 more for his team-mates.
