RC Lens are preparing to bring back a former captain to their technical team. Yannick Cahuzac will return to the French club as part of Pierre Sage’s coaching staff for the upcoming campaign.
Cahuzac played for Lens between 2019 and 2022. He wore the captain’s armband and made 73 appearances during his three-year spell. He also worked as an assistant coach under Franck Haise in the 2022-23 season.
Pierre Sage spoke about the appointment to L’Équipe. The Lens manager, who won the Ligue 1 Manager of the Season award, said talks began last summer. “We agreed on this move earlier in the season. Now we are close to making it official. This is positive news. It will make our squad stronger,” he said.
The coach explained that he knows Cahuzac well. He believes their working relationship will succeed because of Cahuzac’s personality. However, he noted that working together is different from simply knowing someone.
At present, Cahuzac serves as Olivier Pantaloni’s assistant at FC Lorient. His contract there expires in June. This will allow him to complete his return to Lens.
The former midfielder will join the club for their Champions League campaign. Lens finished second in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain. This guarantees them a place in Europe’s top club competition next season.
Before the new campaign begins, Lens have one final match this season. They will face OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final on Friday. The team hopes to win the trophy and finish the year with silverware.
