Algeria international Rachid Ghezzal has officially announced his departure from Olympique Lyonnais. The experienced winger will leave the Ligue 1 outfit when his current deal expires next summer, closing the chapter on his brief return to the club.

The 34-year-old came back to Lyon last year, nearly a decade after he first left for AS Monaco. He signed as a free agent following his exit from Turkish side Çaykur Rizespor Kulübü. Manager Paulo Fonseca added him to the squad to provide leadership and to help him gain experience for a future coaching position within the club’s hierarchy.

However, Ghezzal found opportunities on the pitch scarce. The Décines-Charpieu native featured in just 12 matches in total across all competitions. He registered only one assist during his second spell, setting up a goal in the Europa League clash away to FC Utrecht.

The Algerian star, who has earned 22 caps and scored twice for his national side, took to Instagram to share his farewell message. He expressed mixed emotions about his limited role but remained proud to represent the club again.

“This season brought incredible and difficult moments,” Ghezzal wrote. “I would have liked to contribute more on the pitch, but I am very proud to wear this shirt. Thank you to the players, staff and management, but above all to you, the fans, for your support. The best is yet to come.”
