- Tanner Tessmann looks set to miss the USMNT World Cup squad
- Mauricio Pochettino will announce his team this Tuesday
- The Lyon midfielder missed the final two Ligue 1 matches with a muscle strain
- Reports indicate the injury is not the reason for his likely omission
United States Men’s National Team manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to leave Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann out of his World Cup plans. The former Tottenham Hotspur boss will name his squad on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign in France, making 41 appearances for Les Gones across all competitions. He started 28 of those matches and scored twice, including a decisive winner against Angers SCO and a goal in the Europa League.
Tessmann recently missed the final two fixtures of the Ligue 1 season after suffering a muscle strain before the away trip to Toulouse FC. However, sources suggest this fitness problem is not connected to his expected exclusion from the national team.
This news comes as a heavy disappointment for the Texas-born player. He has earned 14 caps for the Stars and Stripes, finding the net once, and was part of the US setup during their last international gathering in March.
