Kenyan football talent Sammy Henia-Kamau is preparing for a landmark moment in his career. The young winger will soon have the chance to play in the English Premier League following Hull City’s dramatic return to the top division.

The Tigers clinched promotion after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final. Striker Olli McBurnie netted the decisive goal during extra time, capitalising on a costly error by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Sol Brynn inside the penalty area.

This victory marks Hull City’s first appearance in the Premier League for nine years. For Henia-Kamau, it represents a golden opportunity to test himself against the best teams in England. He will now work to convince head coach Sergej Jakirovic that he deserves a place in the senior squad.

The forward signed for Hull at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign after leaving Swansea City’s youth setup. He impressed scouts by finding the net ten times for Swansea’s Under-18 side. His current contract runs for one year, and he hopes to secure an extension to continue his development with the East Yorkshire club.

On the international stage, excitement is also building around the player. National team coach Benni McCarthy has included Henia-Kamau in the Harambee Stars squad for the first time. The team will travel to Bishkek next month for friendly matches against Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.

McCarthy is building a new-look squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The manager has turned to several foreign-born players of Kenyan heritage to strengthen the national team. Henia-Kamau could earn his first cap during these upcoming fixtures.
