AC Milan supporters have turned their anger towards club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic after a disastrous end to their season. The Rossoneri missed out on Champions League qualification following a shocking 2-1 loss against Cagliari at the San Siro.
The defeat proved costly. Milan needed only one point to secure fourth place in Serie A through a better head-to-head record against Como. Instead, they finished fifth and will compete in the Europa League next term.
Owner Gerry Cardinale reacted swiftly by clearing out the entire leadership team. He dismissed head coach Max Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada in one brutal statement. However, Ibrahimovic survived the purge. The former striker not only kept his position as special advisor but also received additional powers within the club hierarchy.
This decision has enraged the Milan ultras. The fan group had previously campaigned for Furlani’s removal while supporting Allegri and Tare. Their stance changed completely after the Cagliari collapse. Protesters hung a large banner outside the Casa Milan headquarters with a clear message: “Nobody must remain. Get Ibra out now too.”
Ibrahimovic arrived at Cardinale’s hotel for emergency talks about the club’s future. Despite the fierce backlash from supporters, analysts believe the American owner will not remove the Swedish star. Sacking Ibrahimovic would leave the club without any senior leadership figures just weeks before the summer transfer window opens.
