Borussia Mönchengladbach have placed their trust in Eugen Polanski for the long term. The Bundesliga club announced this week that the 40-year-old will stay on as head coach for the 2026-27 campaign.
Rouven Schröder, the club’s sporting director, confirmed the decision during a media briefing. He stated that both parties agreed it was the right move to continue working together. However, he also made it clear that the team needs fresh faces to move forward.
“We jointly decided to carry on with Eugen as our head coach,” Schröder explained. “At the same time, we are certain that we need to make personnel changes.”
These alterations will affect both the playing squad and the coaching staff. Schröder noted that the club has already begun this process by bringing in new players.
Polanski took charge of the side under challenging conditions. He did not have the benefit of a long preseason to build his ideas. The situation was further complicated by the arrival of a new sporting director at the same time.
Despite this, the young manager guided the team to safety. “He handled many high-pressure situations throughout the season,” Schröder said. “Crucially, he completed his mission: we stayed in the league.”
The club now wants to give Polanski a proper preseason. This will allow him to shape the defence and attack according to his own style and prepare the centre of the pitch for future clashes.
