North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur stand on the verge of securing Argentine defender Marcos Senesi without paying a transfer fee. The 29-year-old centre-back looks set to leave the south coast after four years with AFC Bournemouth.
Negotiations over wages and contract length continue, though sources indicate the transfer is moving swiftly toward its conclusion. The player has already said no to three separate offers of a new deal from his current employers since last December.
Senesi has been a key figure in defence for Bournemouth. He missed just one league match this season as the club finished sixth and earned a place in European competition for the first time. Since arriving from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2022, he has made 128 appearances for the Cherries.
Meanwhile, Tottenham ended the campaign in 17th position. They preserved their top-flight status by a slim margin following the March appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as head coach.
The club’s chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, recently told BBC Sport that the team requires urgent reinforcement. He stated that the group lacks balance, experience and physical strength needed to compete in England’s top division. He added that several transfer windows will be needed to rebuild the squad, but the current window carries special importance.
