Inter Milan have set their sights on Liverpool’s Curtis Jones. The 23-year-old central midfielder could become the Italian champions’ first new player of the summer window. Reports suggest the deal may cost approximately €50 million. The England international might arrive at the San Siro as early as June.
Meanwhile, Juventus held urgent meetings at their Continassa training ground. Club owner John Elkann and manager Thiago Motta are worried about the slow progress in the transfer market. The club had hoped to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and defender Andrew Robertson, but these moves now look unlikely. Motta wants five or six new players, but he will allow the directors time to complete deals. Striker Dušan Vlahović is also set to leave, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani the top target to replace him.
The upcoming Champions League final has strong connections to Italian football. Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori will face each other in Budapest. Both players previously starred in Serie A. Several other finalists also have Italian experience, including Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos and Fabián Ruiz. PSG are chasing a historic double, while the English side aim to win the trophy for the first time.
In other news, Napoli are monitoring Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman is available on a free transfer. Napoli could pair him with Manchester United target McTominay if Anguissa departs.
Off the pitch, Italy’s temporary head coach Carmine Gautieri has attacked the country’s football system. He claims calcio is controlled by dishonest directors who only care about personal interests. The Azzurri failed to qualify for the World Cup. Gautieri says he does not want the job permanently but will help the team in their upcoming friendly against Luxembourg.
Torino president Urbano Cairo has also spoken about selling the club. He admits his son wants him to sell and says foreign investors might be interested. Former Milan coach Cristian Abate is the favourite to become the new manager.
Finally, Serie A side Monza secured their top-flight status for another season after a tense campaign.
