Canada have announced their squad for the upcoming World Cup tournament. The co-hosts have selected Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies even though he is not fully fit.
The 25-year-old left-back injured a muscle during the final weeks of the Bundesliga season. This problem forced him to stop playing for his club early. Despite this, the coaching staff have decided to include him in the final group.
Medical experts do not expect Davies to be ready for the first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, he might join the team for later games if his recovery goes well.
The squad includes three goalkeepers: Maxime Crepeau, Owen Goodman and Dayne St. Clair. The defence features Moise Bombito, Derek Cornelius, Luc de Fougerolles, Alistar Johnston, Alfie Jones, Richie Laryea, Niko Sigur and Joel Waterman.
In midfield, Canada can choose from Ali Ahmed, Tajon Buchanan, Mathieu Choiniere, Stephen Eustaquio, Marcelo Flores, Ismael Kone, Liam Millar, Jonathan Osorio, Nathan Saliba and Jacob Shaffelburg. The attacking options are Jonathan David, Promise David, Cyle Larin and Tani Oluwaseyi.
