  • Permanent Gladbach move ruled out; set for Hoffenheim return and likely summer transfer

Borussia Mönchengladbach endured a difficult and irregular 2025/26 campaign. However, Haris Tabakovic provided steady attacking support that prevented further struggles for the club.

The forward joined on loan from TSG Hoffenheim. He replaced injured star Tim Kleindienst. Tabakovic quickly became Gladbach’s main danger in attack. He netted 13 times across 32 Bundesliga matches.

The 31-year-old ended the term strongly. He scored during the 4-0 demolition of Hoffenheim. Sadly, he broke a metatarsal bone during that same match. This injury creates uncertainty about his World Cup role with Bosnia & Herzegovina. Despite this setback, the player hopes to feature. He plans to travel with the national squad anyway. He helped them qualify for the tournament.

A permanent transfer to Gladbach now seems impossible. He will return to Hoffenheim following the World Cup. A summer departure from Hoffenheim appears likely. His performances this season have attracted interest from several other clubs.

The striker scored two doubles during the campaign. His first brace came in November. Gladbach beat St. Pauli 4-0 away from home on that occasion. The Bosnian opened the scoring that day. He took advantage of an error by St. Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj. He later added a second goal with a classic striker’s finish. He nearly completed a hat-trick. Instead, he assisted Shuto Machino for the third goal. Oscar Fraulo then scored the fourth.

Tabakovic collected six votes from ten Bulinews writers to win the award. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas placed second with three votes. Team captain Rocco Reitz received the final vote. Reitz is expected to move to RB Leipzig in a controversial transfer.
