- William Saliba suffers injury setback during Champions League final in Budapest
- France centre-back risks missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup
- Didier Deschamps may need to reorganise his defence before the Senegal clash
France defender William Saliba might miss the FIFA World Cup because of an injury. The Arsenal centre-back hurt himself during the Champions League final last Saturday.
Saliba played the full 120 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal lost the match on penalties in Budapest. However, reports suggest the 25-year-old was already carrying a small problem before the game. This issue became worse during the match.
Doctors say the defender could be out for several weeks. This creates a big problem for France manager Didier Deschamps. Saliba has become a key player for the national team. He normally plays at centre-back with Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano. Now, Deschamps must look for new defensive partners.
The World Cup starts in just two weeks. France play their first match against Senegal on 16th June. They also face Ivory Coast in a warm-up game this Thursday. The French Football Federation is very worried about Saliba’s fitness. The exact nature of the injury has not been revealed.
