Arne Engels is ready to quit Celtic after just one season in Scotland. The Belgian midfielder believes he needs a new challenge, and several top Italian clubs are watching him closely.
The 22-year-old will celebrate his 23rd birthday in September. He recently hired a new agent because he feels now is the right time to advance his career. Reports from Belgium suggest AC Milan is very interested in signing him.
AS Roma is also keen on the versatile player. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini tried to buy Engels when he coached Atalanta earlier in 2025. Now that Gasperini leads Roma, the club could revive their pursuit of the former Augsburg star.
Roma can offer Engels football in the Champions League next season. The club secured their place in Europe’s top competition, which makes them an attractive option for the midfielder.
Engels joined Celtic from German side Augsburg for €13 million in 2024. He played 46 matches for the Scottish club this term, scoring seven goals and creating eight more. He normally plays in the centre of midfield but can also operate as a right wing-back.
