Real Madrid are rushing to secure the services of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries. The Spanish club intend to trigger the €25 million release clause in his contract as soon as the club’s presidential election ends on Sunday.
This move would provide a major boost to Inter’s own transfer plans. The Nerazzurri were unable to make a serious offer for Atalanta winger Marco Palestra while Dumfries’ future remained uncertain. Now, with the Dutchman’s departure looking likely, Inter can begin raising the €50 million needed to meet Atalanta’s asking price.
Reports indicate that Florentino Pérez has promised incoming manager José Mourinho that a new right-back will arrive at the Bernabéu this summer. Mourinho has identified Dumfries as his primary target for that position.
The 30-year-old, who turned 30 in April, is under contract with Inter until June 2028. The Italian side signed him from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 for just €14.25 million. His release clause is only active for a limited period during the summer window, though personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
Inter must act quickly to secure Palestra, however. Several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Newcastle United and Arsenal, have all expressed strong interest in signing the Italy international.
