FC Schalke 04 have tabled a fresh contract offer to keep veteran striker Edin Džeko at the club until 2027. The experienced forward joined the Gelsenkirchen outfit on a short-term deal earlier this campaign. His important goals helped secure the club’s immediate return to the Bundesliga.

According to reports in Germany, the Royal Blues are ready to double the Bosnia and Herzegovina international’s current wages. The new agreement would see him earn approximately €1.5 million per season. Despite this improved offer, the 40-year-old prefers to postpone any decision.

Džeko wishes to concentrate fully on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with his national team. He will only consider his club future once those international fixtures are complete.

Schalke director Frank Baumann remains hopeful that the striker will stay. He stated that the chances look good for an agreement. Baumann explained that Džeko feels physically able to continue playing. He also highlighted the valuable experience and professional attitude the veteran brings to the squad both on and off the pitch.

Since his arrival, Džeko has found the net six times in just eleven appearances. His contributions have proved vital during the team’s successful push for promotion.
