German goalkeeper Loris Karius is close to signing a new contract with FC Schalke 04. Reports from Sky Germany indicate that negotiations between the player and the Bundesliga club are nearly complete.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper’s current deal expires in 2027. Despite having two years remaining, both Karius and the Gelsenkirchen club want to extend their partnership. The proposed new contract would run until 2028.

The agreement includes plans to increase the former Liverpool keeper’s wages significantly. Should he put pen to paper, he would rank among the top earners at the Veltins-Arena.

Karius has rejected the chance to move to Italy. He has made it clear that his priority is to stay with Schalke and continue playing in the Bundesliga.

Both sides are currently working on the final elements of the contract. An official announcement is expected shortly.
