Gennaro Gattuso has already begun his duties as Lazio’s new head coach. The Italian arrived at the Formello training ground on Wednesday. He has not signed his contract yet. Gattuso replaces Maurizio Sarri at the Serie A club. Sarri left his position by mutual agreement. The past year saw many problems between the coach and the club’s directors. The team struggled during the campaign. Now Sarri looks set to join Atalanta as their new manager.
The 45-year-old recently left his job as Italy’s national team coach. He resigned after the Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Media reports suggest he has agreed to a two-year contract with Lazio. The deal would see him manage the Rome-based side until 2026.
At Formello, Gattuso met with club directors. They discussed the final terms of his contract. They also talked about transfer plans for the summer window. The new coach brought three key staff members with him. Assistant manager Luigi Riccio, team manager Stefan Derkum and director Alberto Bianchi joined him at the training centre.
The Lazio players will return from their break next month. They will undergo medical examinations on July 10. Pre-season training sessions will begin at Formello on July 13. The squad will prepare for the upcoming Serie A campaign under their new leader.
