RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer has moved to calm speculation surrounding head coach Ole Werner’s job security amid reports of splits within the club’s hierarchy. Recent claims suggested that board members remain undecided over whether the 38-year-old should continue in his role.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Schäfer addressed the possibility of extending Werner’s contract, which is valid until 2027. He revealed that senior staff held their first lengthy discussions since the campaign concluded during the club’s recent tour to South Africa. He stressed that analysing the season and planning ahead requires careful thought and time.

“We do not feel any pressure,” Schäfer stated. “Ole remains under contract here until 2027.”

When asked about Werner’s strengths, the sporting director praised the coach for establishing a clear tactical identity. He noted that the team maintained the same formation for almost the entire season, with minimal changes to the starting lineup. Schäfer believes successful sides depend on a settled core of players rather than constant rotation.

He also pointed to the squad’s rapid tactical progress under Werner’s guidance. Even during a difficult spell around the winter break, the players stayed committed to their game plan without losing focus.

Schäfer saved his highest praise for the team spirit Werner has fostered. He told the squad after their final match against Freiburg that their togetherness marked a significant improvement from the previous year. He concluded that the manager’s calm and practical approach has provided vital stability during a challenging period.
