- Bellingham’s maturity belies his young age, says former captain
Jordan Henderson has identified Jude Bellingham as the player who will ignite England’s campaign at the 2026 World Cup. The veteran midfielder expects his teammate to produce decisive performances on football’s biggest stage.
Henderson presented Bellingham with his first England cap half a decade ago. The debut came during an away fixture at Middlesbrough. He has witnessed dramatic growth in the youngster since that day.
“I gave him his first cap five years ago,” Henderson recalled. “His development as a person and player has been incredible.”
During training, the England squad participates in rondo exercises. These drills typically see the youngest member begin in the centre. Henderson revealed that Bellingham always steps forward first. This occurs despite senior players being eligible for the position.
Henderson stressed that people often forget how young Bellingham is. He added that the midfielder’s willingness to take responsibility highlights his maturity.
“I could not speak more highly of him,” Henderson concluded.
