The Tunisia Football Federation has sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi. The move follows a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their first FIFA World Cup group match.

Officials announced the decision on Monday via the federation’s Instagram page. They stated that an official agreement was made to end Lamouchi’s time in charge.

Mondher Kebaier is set to become the new interim coach. The federation is now working to complete his appointment.

The Carthage Eagles still have two Group F games remaining. They will clash with Japan this Saturday at the same venue in Guadalupe. They will then finish their campaign against the Netherlands in Kansas City.

Lamouchi, aged 54, only took the job in January. He was already facing criticism after a 5-0 friendly loss to Belgium in Brussels before the World Cup began.

This is not the first time the Frenchman has left a World Cup early. He also managed Côte d’Ivoire at the 2014 finals in Brazil, where they exited during the group stage.
