Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed that goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso will spend the upcoming season on loan at Belgian Pro League side RAAL La Louvière.

The 20-year-old has signed a one-year temporary deal with the Belgian top-flight club, marking the next step in his development after breaking into the Gladbach first team earlier this year.

Cardoso’s breakthrough at Gladbach

The Luxembourg international made his competitive debut for the Bundesliga club in March 2025 and has since made five appearances in Germany’s top division. His rapid progression from the youth ranks to senior football has marked him as one to watch within the club’s academy system.

Despite his limited experience at the highest level, the young goalkeeper has already demonstrated his capabilities against Bundesliga opposition. Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder said the loan represents a “logical and important next step” for the player’s career.

“Tiago is a regular in the Luxembourg national team and has already shown us, despite his young age, that he is capable of playing in the Bundesliga,” Schröder stated. “A year of regular football in a strong league is therefore a logical and important next step for him.”

Belgian move designed to aid progression

Schröder highlighted the club’s track record with goalkeeper loans as a proven model for Cardoso’s progression. “It’s an approach that has worked very well for us before, particularly with goalkeepers, and we hope it will help him kick on again in his development,” he added.

The move to RAAL La Louvière offers Cardoso the opportunity to secure regular first-team football in one of Europe’s established leagues. The Belgian Pro League provides a competitive environment that could prove crucial for the goalkeeper as he seeks to build on his early promise and gain valuable match experience.

Cardoso will spend the entire 2025-26 campaign in Belgium before returning to Borussia-Park, where he remains under contract with the German club. The arrangement allows Gladbach to monitor his progress while he faces the demands of senior football on a weekly basis.
