SV Elversberg have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a summer move for winger Cole Campbell. The newly-promoted German side are pushing to secure the 20-year-old on a permanent basis, though a loan arrangement remains possible if terms cannot be agreed.

Campbell spent the second half of last season on loan at TSG Hoffenheim, gaining valuable Bundesliga experience. Now Elversberg hope to bring him to the Saarland for the upcoming campaign, though they face rival interest from Scottish champions Celtic.

Celtic challenge for signature

Celtic have emerged as contenders for Campbell’s signature. The Glasgow club have registered their interest in the versatile forward, who appears likely to leave Signal Iduna Park permanently this summer after failing to break into Dortmund’s first team.

The youngster arrived at Dortmund’s academy in 2022 but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the senior side. His spell at Hoffenheim represented his first taste of senior football in Germany’s top flight, offering exposure to high-level competition despite limited minutes.

Dortmund seek future protection

Borussia Dortmund are looking to protect their investment in any deal. The club are seeking to include either a buy-back clause or a significant sell-on fee in any transfer agreement, ensuring they could benefit financially should Campbell develop elsewhere.

Elversberg would prefer an outright purchase to secure Campbell’s services long-term, but may accept a loan if Dortmund insist on retaining control of the player’s future. With multiple clubs now circling for the winger, the coming weeks will determine whether he remains in Germany or makes the switch to Scotland.
