Coventry City are closing in on the signing of Swiss defender Aurèle Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal that could be worth up to €20 million. The transfer is reported to be nearing completion, with only minor details remaining to be finalised between the newly-promoted Premier League side and the Bundesliga club.

According to Bild, Eintracht are set to receive up to €20 million including bonuses for the 22-year-old centre-back, representing a significant return on the €9.5 million they paid to Swiss champions Young Boys in January 2024. Sky Germany reports that negotiations remain at an advanced stage, with personal terms also understood to be largely agreed. Amenda is said to be enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Frank Lampard’s squad.

Bundesliga experience and international recognition

Amenda has established himself as a reliable presence in the Frankfurt defence since his arrival 18 months ago. The Swiss international has accumulated 42 appearances for the German club, including 29 outings during the 2025/26 campaign.

His consistent performances at club level have translated to international recognition. Amenda is currently with Switzerland’s World Cup squad, though he did not feature in any of the team’s first three matches.

Coventry’s defensive reinforcement

The prospective acquisition signals Coventry’s ambition as they prepare for life in the Premier League. Securing a young, internationally-capped defender with substantial Bundesliga experience would represent a major statement of intent from Lampard’s side.

While Bild suggests the deal is essentially complete, the formal announcement may be delayed until after Switzerland’s World Cup involvement concludes. The structure of the fee, including performance-related bonuses, reflects the potential Coventry see in the former Young Boys prospect as they seek to consolidate their top-flight status.
