Stade Rennais have opened negotiations to extend head coach Franck Haise’s contract, sporting director Loïc Désiré has confirmed.

Désiré revealed to Ouest-France that discussions are underway to secure the 53-year-old’s future beyond his current agreement, which expires in June 2027. “Talks have begun,” Désiré said. “Franck has done a very good job with his staff since he arrived. He knows the city, the region, and the club very well, and we want to build a long-term relationship with him.”

Haise rejoined the Ligue 1 outfit in January following his dismissal from Ineos-owned OGC Nice, stepping in after Habib Beye departed for Marseille. The appointment represented a homecoming for the Frenchman, who had previously served as a youth coach at the club.

His impact has been immediate and decisive. Under his guidance, Rennes have recorded eight wins in twelve Ligue 1 fixtures, a remarkable run that transformed their season and secured European qualification after a difficult opening half of the campaign.

The Breton club have demonstrated their ambition ahead of the new season through significant recruitment, securing deals for Adrien Thomass, Issa Soumaré and Gonçalo Oliveira. They have also retained last season’s leading goalscorer Estéban Lepaul by extending his contract.

Although Haise’s existing deal still has two years remaining, Rennes are eager to provide stability in the dugout as they prepare for continental competition. Securing European football represents a significant turnaround from the club’s position when Haise took charge, and the negotiations signal Rennes’ intention to maintain momentum rather than risk further managerial change.

Should both parties reach an agreement, the extension would tie Haise to the club for the foreseeable future, allowing him to build upon the foundations laid during his brief but productive first six months.
