FC Lorient have completed the signing of Alec Georgen, with the 27-year-old defender joining the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with USL Dunkerque. The deal was confirmed on Tuesday, with Georgen committing to a three-year contract and taking the No.2 shirt at his new club.
The right-back returns to the French top flight five years after departing Paris Saint-Germain, where he developed through the club’s renowned youth academy. Despite his progression through the ranks at the Parc des Princes, Georgen managed only a single senior appearance for the first team before leaving permanently in 2019.
Since his exit from PSG, Georgen has accumulated extensive experience in the lower divisions. He represented Avranches, AJ Auxerre and Concarneau prior to his move to Dunkerque. During his time with the Ligue 2 outfit, the defender made 74 appearances across all competitions, including 34 matches last season. However, he opted against renewing his deal upon its expiry this summer, choosing instead to pursue an opportunity in the top tier.
The acquisition provides manager Olivier Pantaloni with additional depth in the full-back positions as Lorient prepare for the new campaign. The Breton club secured a comfortable mid-table finish in Ligue 1 last term, and Georgen’s arrival adds a player with both top-flight academy grounding and recent second-tier experience to the squad.
The length of Georgen’s contract suggests Lorient view him as a long-term contributor rather than a short-term squad option. Having demonstrated durability and consistency over four seasons in the professional ranks, the defender now has the platform to establish himself as a regular starter in one of Europe’s major leagues.
