Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed the signing of Burkina Faso international Mohamed Ouédraogo from Austrian side SCR Altach. The 23-year-old full-back joins the French club for an initial fee of €2.2 million as the seven-time Ligue 1 champions continue their recruitment drive ahead of the new campaign.
Deal structure and terms
The agreement includes additional performance-related bonuses worth up to €600,000, potentially taking the total package to €2.8 million. Lyon have also secured a 10 per cent share of any profit generated from a future transfer, protecting their investment should the defender’s value increase during his time in France.
Rise through the ranks
Ouédraogo arrives with solid first-team experience despite his relatively young age. He completed 72 appearances for Altach after moving from Burkinabé club SC Majestic during the winter of 2023. During his spell in the Austrian Bundesliga, he scored five goals and created four assists from defensive positions.
The 2025-26 campaign proved particularly productive for the attacking-minded full-back. He featured 35 times across all competitions, contributing four goals and three assists while establishing himself as a regular starter. His ability to contribute in the final third marked him out as one of Altach’s key performers during a challenging season.
International pedigree
The defender has already earned nine senior caps for Burkina Faso. His move to Lyon represents a significant step up in level and could strengthen his position within the national team setup as they target qualification for upcoming continental tournaments.
Lyon’s summer strategy
Ouédraogo becomes the fourth new arrival at the Groupama Stadium this transfer window. He follows Kaïl Boudache, Mads Bidstrup and Julien Duranville through the door as the club’s hierarchy moves swiftly to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
The early activity in the market reflects the club’s urgent need to prepare adequately for Champions League qualifying rounds. With continental fixtures approaching, managerial staff will hope the new recruits integrate quickly and provide the depth necessary to navigate a demanding schedule.
The transfer offers Ouédraogo the chance to showcase his abilities in one of Europe’s top five leagues, potentially paving the way for further international recognition and career progression.
