Venezia land Spanish teen Ale Gomes
Newly-promoted Venezia have agreed terms to bring in Spanish teenager Ale Gomes from Real Zaragoza. Reports from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio indicate the Serie A newcomers will pay a fee of €2m plus bonuses for the 18-year-old centre-back.
Financial terms have reportedly been settled between the clubs, with only the formal signing of documents remaining to complete the transfer.
Player profile and statistics
Gomes is a Spain Under-18 international who featured 13 times in the Spanish second division during the 2025-26 campaign. He also made two appearances in the Copa del Rey and played eight matches for Zaragoza’s reserve side in the fourth tier.
The centre-back arrives in Italy with experience of senior football despite his age, having competed at multiple levels of the Spanish pyramid before Zaragoza’s relegation to the third tier.
Defensive reinforcements for Serie A return
The move follows Venezia’s Serie B title triumph, which secured their immediate return to Italy’s top flight. Real Zaragoza, meanwhile, dropped to the Spanish third tier, prompting the departure of one of their promising young defenders.
The Italian club have been active in the transfer market as they prepare for life in Serie A. They have also finalised moves for Arnel Bella-Kotchap, Toma Basic, Thorir Johann Helgason, Kornel Lisman, Lorenzo Berardi and Thierry Correia.
Sparta Prague defender Albion Rrahmani is scheduled for a medical with Venezia at the start of next week. The Kosovo international would add further depth to their defensive options ahead of the new season.
Gomes is expected to provide cover and competition in defence as Venezia look to establish themselves back in the Italian top division.
