AS Saint-Étienne have officially announced the signing of Danish forward Jakob Breum from Dutch Eredivisie club Go Ahead Eagles. The 22-year-old Denmark U21 international has committed to a long-term contract running until the summer of 2030, with the transfer reportedly commanding a fee of €3 million.

Breum will take the iconic No.10 shirt at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, a clear indication of the creative responsibility he will shoulder in the upcoming campaign. He becomes the second new face at the French club this summer, following the earlier arrival of Sohaib Nair from Ligue 2 rivals EA Guingamp.

During his time in the Netherlands, Breum developed into a reliable attacking threat. Since signing for Go Ahead Eagles in 2023, he accumulated 105 senior appearances, finding the net 20 times and registering 17 assists for the Eredivisie side. His consistent performances helped the club secure European qualification, and he subsequently gained valuable continental experience featuring in the UEFA Europa League last season.

The signing addresses a critical need for Saint-Étienne as they plot an immediate return to Ligue 1. The historic French club missed out on promotion last season, falling short in their bid to reclaim top-flight status. Compounding concerns around their prospects, there are fears that standout performers Lucas Stassin and Zuriko Davitashvili could depart before the transfer window closes, potentially weakening an attack that struggled for consistency during the previous campaign.

By securing Breum on a six-year deal, Saint-Étienne have invested in both immediate impact and long-term stability. The Denmark youth international, who has earned six caps at U21 level, offers versatility across the forward line alongside his proven scoring record. His arrival, combined with the capture of Nair, suggests the club’s hierarchy remains committed to significant squad strengthening despite their current second-tier status.

Saint-Étienne supporters will hope Breum’s goal-scoring instincts and European pedigree can prove decisive in what promises to be a demanding Ligue 2 season. The French outfit begin their promotion quest knowing that reinforcements of this calibre demonstrate serious intent to end their absence from the top division.
