Maghnes Akliouche has agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain as the AS Monaco midfielder prepares to depart the Principality club this summer, according to reports from RMC Sport.

The 24-year-old France international, currently competing at the FIFA World Cup, has reached an agreement with the reigning European champions. The development represents significant progress in PSG’s efforts to secure the AS Monaco academy product, whom they view as a replacement for Lee Kang-in.

Lee Kang-in departure opens door

PSG’s pursuit of Akliouche has accelerated following the progression of Lee Kang-in’s transfer to Atletico Madrid. RMC Sport understands that the Parisian club and the Spanish side have struck a deal worth just over €40 million, including bonuses, for the South Korea international.

With that deal progressing, PSG have upped their attempts to sign Akliouche. Fabrizio Romano has reported that PSG were leading the race for the midfielder’s signature.

Monaco stance softens

Unlike last summer, when AS Monaco set a prohibitive price tag that blocked any potential exit, the Principality club will not stand in Akliouche’s way during this transfer window. The player was touted to leave last summer, but the price tag proved prohibitive. He is now set to leave his formative club after progressing through their academy.

Talks between Les Parisiens and Les Monégasques have now just begun. However, an agreement between the clubs regarding the transfer is yet to be finalised despite the player’s terms being settled.

Akliouche’s participation in the World Cup with France adds a layer of complexity to the timing of any announcement, though the agreement suggests the transfer is moving towards completion pending the resolution of discussions between the clubs.

The potential move would see the 24-year-old remain in the French top flight while joining the reigning European champions. For Monaco, the departure marks the exit of another academy product to a larger club.
