Eintracht Frankfurt have identified Ajax Amsterdam defender Anton Gaaei as a potential target as they look to fill the void left by Rasmus Kristensen’s recent departure.

According to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, the Bundesliga club are monitoring the defender closely. Reports suggest the Amsterdam club would consider offers for the player despite him having two years remaining on his current agreement.

Kristensen exit creates vacancy

Frankfurt’s interest comes following the sudden exit of Kristensen, who recently returned to his homeland for personal reasons. FC Midtjylland secured the 28-year-old’s signature for a fee understood to be between €5 million and €6 million, leaving a gap in the German side’s squad.

The loss of the experienced defender has prompted the club to explore the transfer market for reinforcements. Gaaei has emerged as a viable candidate to strengthen their options at the back.

Gaaei’s attacking contribution

Gaaei established himself as a regular starter for Ajax during the previous campaign. He demonstrated notable attacking capabilities from defence, contributing three goals and five assists across all competitions.

His offensive output has attracted attention beyond the Eredivisie, with Frankfurt now appearing as the most serious suitors from abroad. However, no formal agreement has been reached between the clubs, and the transaction remains at the exploratory stage.

Ajax officials are reportedly willing to negotiate should an acceptable bid arrive, potentially allowing Gaaei to test himself in German football before his contract expires. The coming weeks will determine whether Frankfurt formalise their interest with a concrete proposal.
