OGC Nice are actively hunting for a new centre-forward after Elye Wahi’s loan spell concluded on 30 June, with the 23-year-old returning to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Ligue 1 side have drawn up a shortlist headed by Bamba Dieng and Simon Banza, though securing either signature presents distinct challenges.

Dieng available on a free transfer

Bamba Dieng enters the market as a free agent following his departure from FC Lorient. The 26-year-old Senegalese striker enjoyed a productive campaign last term, registering 15 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.

His availability without a transfer fee has attracted attention from several quarters. Turkish clubs and Saudi side Al-Shabab are reportedly monitoring his situation. However, sources suggest Dieng has not placed Nice at the top of his preferred destinations, meaning the Riviera club may face competition for his signature despite their interest.

Banza presents contractual obstacle

Simon Banza has emerged as the option favoured by Nice’s hierarchy. The 29-year-old Congolese forward established his reputation during spells at SC Braga and Trabzonspor before moving to Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates last summer.

Despite his recent relocation, Banza could return to European football temporarily. Nice hope to negotiate a loan arrangement with Al-Jazira, although the Emirati club are under no immediate pressure to sell. Banza’s contract runs until 2028, complicating any potential exit and likely requiring substantial negotiation.

Recruitment timeline

The departure of Wahi leaves a significant gap in Franck Haise’s attacking options. With the new season approaching, Nice are working to reinforce their forward line, though neither deal appears imminent.

Dieng represents the more accessible option given his unattached status, yet his personal preferences may steer him elsewhere. Banza fits the profile desired by management, but his lengthy contract in the Gulf states demands complex talks. The coming weeks will determine which route the French club pursue as they seek to finalise their squad.
