Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that John Stones has been offered to Juventus, Inter and Milan following his departure from Manchester City. The England international is available on a free transfer after his contract expired on 30 June, though his substantial wage demands and extensive injury record have prompted caution among the Serie A trio.
Stones ended a ten-year association with Manchester City last month, having worked exclusively under Pep Guardiola since arriving from Everton in 2016. During that period, the centre-back accumulated six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, three EFL Cups and the 2022-23 Champions League, establishing himself as one of the most decorated English defenders of his generation.
Despite this pedigree, Romano reports that all three Italian clubs harbour significant reservations regarding the 32-year-old’s economic expectations and physical reliability. Inter were first approached about Stones in March, though those initial discussions failed to generate concrete progress. In recent days, representatives have renewed efforts by proposing the defender to Juventus and Milan as well, yet no club has advanced to formal negotiations.
The hesitation stems from a troubling pattern of unavailability. Stones managed 27 Premier League appearances during his debut campaign at the Etihad in 2016-17—a figure that remains his highest seasonal tally in England’s top flight. Over the five subsequent seasons, he has averaged merely 14.6 league appearances per campaign, statistics that underscore the durability issues complicating his search for new employment.
The prospect of moving to Italy would represent uncharted territory for Stones, who has spent his entire professional career in English football since breaking through at Everton. With the new season approaching, he faces increasing pressure to secure a contract. Italian clubs must now weigh whether his experience at the highest level justifies the financial outlay and squad risk attached to his signing. As matters stand, none of Juventus, Inter or Milan appear ready to complete a deal, leaving the former City defender in limbo.
