Roma have turned their attention to Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye after failing to secure a deal for Mason Greenwood, according to reports in Italy.

The Giallorossi had spent several weeks negotiating with Olympique de Marseille for the former Manchester United forward. However, the Ligue 1 side demanded €50m for the controversial England international, and Roma could not reach an agreement on the transfer fee.

Despite reports suggesting tentative personal terms had been settled between Greenwood and the Serie A club, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have intervened with a significantly superior financial package. The Istanbul side have reportedly proposed a salary between €8m and €10m per year, effectively removing Roma from contention for the player’s signature.

Roma identify alternative target

With the Greenwood pursuit abandoned, Roma are now targeting Ndoye, who joined Nottingham Forest from Bologna last summer in a deal worth €40m plus additional bonuses.

The Switzerland international struggled to establish himself as a guaranteed starter at the City Ground during the 2025-26 campaign. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Forest are now willing to consider offers for the 23-year-old after just twelve months in the Premier League. The report suggests the Midlands club’s valuation of the player has decreased in recent weeks, potentially making a deal more achievable for the Italian side.

Contract priorities delay arrivals

Before completing any incoming transfers, Roma must resolve several pressing contractual matters involving current squad members. The club are working to settle situations regarding captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, Argentine forward Paulo Dybala, and Turkish defender Zeki Celik.

The first team are scheduled to return for pre-season training on Monday. Sources suggest the club’s management intend to accelerate their recruitment efforts once the squad reconvenes, with Ndoye now representing the primary objective for the attacking department.
