Manchester United are reportedly considering Roma midfielder Manu Kone as they look to add a third central midfielder this summer. The Premier League side have already secured deals for Ederson and Andrey Santos but retain the budget to strengthen further.
United have agreed a €58.5 million (£50m) deal to sign Santos from Chelsea and are completing a €45m move for Atalanta’s Ederson. With the latter currently undergoing medical tests in the UK, head coach Michael Carrick could soon welcome a trio of new midfield options if the club pursues Kone.
Roma’s financial position
Kone has emerged as a viable target partly because Roma are operating under financial fair play restrictions. The Giallorossi remain bound by a settlement agreement with UEFA, which has increased speculation that they may need to sell key assets this window.
The France international, who played a prominent role at the 2026 World Cup, has been valued at between €50m and €58.5m (£50m) in various reports. TeamTalk suggests his performances on the international stage may have pushed his price toward the higher end of that range.
Arsenal interest
United face competition from Premier League champions Arsenal, who have also been linked with the midfielder. Both clubs are monitoring whether Roma’s financial constraints create an opportunity to negotiate.
Any deal for Kone would represent a significant investment for United, potentially matching the fee paid for Santos. However, with Carrick desperate to overhaul his midfield options, the club appear willing to back their manager with substantial resources.
