AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has assumed direct control over the club’s transfer operations, declaring that he alone approves every cent of spending as the Rossoneri invest approximately €100 million in new players under head coach Ruben Amorim.
Cardinale, who appeared alongside Amorim at the Portuguese manager’s unveiling press conference, told Calcio&Finanza that no other figure at the club holds spending authority. “No one at Milan has approval rights at any threshold in the transfer market, apart from me,” he stated. “I approve every single cent, and I’m the only one who gives the final green light.”
€100m Summer Outlay
Milan have moved swiftly to support their new coach, securing two major signings within weeks of Amorim replacing Massimiliano Allegri. The club finalised a deal worth up to €70 million, including add-ons, to acquire Portugal international Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. The striker becomes the marquee addition of the new era.
Defensive reinforcements have also arrived, with Lazio centre-back Mario Gila currently undergoing medical examinations before completing a €30 million transfer. These acquisitions bring Milan’s summer expenditure to roughly €100 million, signalling serious intent despite the absence of Champions League revenue.
Collaborative Process, Singular Authority
Although Cardinale maintains ultimate financial authority, he emphasised that recruitment decisions emerge from collective deliberation involving the coaching staff. “We do things as a team,” he explained. “So the team will continue to make recommendations, and we will work together. We have a lot of input from the coach and my team. But in the end, when the time comes to make a decision, I approve it.”
The restructuring follows a disappointing 2025-26 campaign that saw Milan fail to qualify for the Champions League, prompting Allegri’s dismissal. Amorim, who previously managed Manchester United, has inherited a squad requiring further reinforcement to challenge both domestically and in Europe.
Further Business Expected
Although Milan have already strengthened their attacking and defensive lines, the club acknowledges that transfer activity remains incomplete. Several areas of the squad still require attention before the window closes, with further acquisitions expected as Amorim attempts to restore the seven-time European champions to continental competition.
