Heidenheim have completed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Thomas Dähne, the club announced on Wednesday. The 32-year-old arrives on a free transfer after his contract with TSV 1860 Munich expired, committing to the Bundesliga side until June 30, 2028.
Career pedigree
Dähne brings substantial experience across Germany’s professional pyramid. He has made nine appearances in the Bundesliga, 51 in the 2. Bundesliga and 35 in the 3. Liga. He has also gained experience playing abroad during his career.
The move represents a step up for the shot-stopper, who now joins a Heidenheim side competing in the top flight. His arrival adds depth and know-how to the club’s goalkeeping department ahead of the new campaign.
Official reaction
Heidenheim chairman Holger Sanwald welcomed the capture, highlighting Dähne’s qualities both on and off the pitch. “We’re adding a goalkeeper in Thomas Dähne who will perfectly complement our goalkeeping department,” Sanwald said. “He brings many years of experience from German and international professional football and has consistently demonstrated his quality at this level.”
Sanwald also praised the influence Dähne is expected to have within the squad. “We’re convinced that our young goalkeepers, as well as the entire team, will benefit from his positive personality. Thomas remains highly ambitious while also being an outstanding team player.”
Dähne himself expressed enthusiasm about the switch, citing positive early discussions with the club. “From the very beginning, the talks with the club gave me a very good feeling,” he said. “At 1860 Munich, I also worked with goalkeeping coach Vitus Eicher, who reinforced my belief that Heidenheim is a very special club. I want to help the team both on and off the pitch and do my part to contribute to our success.”
The rapid completion of the deal followed intensive work from Heidenheim’s goalkeeping coach Bernd Weng, with the club moving swiftly to secure Dähne’s services once his previous agreement expired.
