Kaiserslautern claimed all three points on the road after defeating St. Pauli 2-1 in a hard-fought 2. Bundesliga fixture. Strikers Erencan Yardımcı and Thierry Tazemeta found the net for the visitors, while Abdoulie Ceesay replied for the hosts. The result lifts Torsten Lieberknecht’s side following a determined defensive effort led by goalkeeper Julian Krahl.

First Half Breakthrough

St. Pauli started brightly and controlled the ball during the opening exchanges, yet they failed to trouble Krahl in the Kaiserslautern goal. After 17 minutes, Louis Oppie linked up with Martijn Kaars to create a clear opportunity, but the visiting keeper handled his attempt with ease.

Against the run of play, Kaiserslautern opened the scoring on the half-hour. Semih Şahin fired toward goal, and as Ben Voll moved to make the save, Yardımcı seized the rebound inside the penalty area and tapped into the unguarded net to register his maiden strike for the club. Five minutes before the interval, Branimir Hrgota collected the ball just outside the box, yet Krahl denied him with a smart save using his feet to preserve the advantage at the break.

Second Half Drama

Lieberknecht introduced Tazemeta at the interval in place of Yardımcı, and the substitute required only sixty seconds to make his mark. Jacob Rasmussen slipped the forward through on the right flank; Tazemeta bypassed two defenders, cut into the area, and squeezed the ball home from a narrow angle to double the advantage.

The hosts pulled one back eight minutes later. Substitute Abdoulie Ceesay had been on the pitch for merely a minute when Taichi Hara raced to the byline and cut the ball back for him to convert from close range. With a quarter of an hour left, Hrgota tested Krahl from a set-piece, but the keeper gathered comfortably as tension mounted among the home crowd.

Kaiserslautern dropped deep to protect their lead during the closing stages. St. Pauli pushed forward in search of an equaliser but struggled to break through the compact defensive block, allowing the visitors to hold on for an impressive away triumph.
