Alejandro Garnacho is finalising a move to Aston Villa after completing a medical in Birmingham, according to reports. The Chelsea winger will initially join on loan with a conditional obligation to make the transfer permanent.
The Argentine is presently in Birmingham to sign the necessary paperwork. When the deal becomes permanent, he is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Premier League club.
Serie A clubs miss out
The agreement ends months of speculation linking Garnacho with a switch to Italy. Roma, Napoli and Milan had all previously registered interest in the 22-year-old, but his wage demands proved prohibitive for the Serie A sides.
Roma have subsequently dropped their pursuit entirely and are now concentrating their efforts on West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville. Napoli’s current position remains unclear following Villa’s intervention.
Milan’s parallel concerns
The development disrupts Milan’s broader transfer strategy. The Rossoneri had hoped Aston Villa would instead present an offer for Rafael Leão to fill their left-sided attacking role. With Villa committing resources to Garnacho, that prospect has diminished.
Separate negotiations between Villa and Milan continue regarding defender Pervis Estupiñán, whom the Italian club are eager to sell. The outcome of the Garnacho deal could influence the momentum of those discussions.
Background and contract
Garnacho moved from Manchester United to Chelsea for €46.2 million last summer but has struggled to secure regular playing time at Stamford Bridge. The loan arrangement offers him the opportunity to rebuild form and fitness.
