Atalanta have stepped up their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic by submitting a renewed bid worth €25 million plus bonuses, according to reports in Italy. The offer brings the Serie A side closer to the Bundesliga club’s asking price of approximately €30 million.
Bid edges closer to valuation
La Dea have returned with an improved proposal for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international after initial negotiations. The latest package, reported by Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset, totals €25m including add-ons. While this falls short of Leverkusen’s demands, it signals serious intent from the Bergamo outfit as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
Salzburg loan showcases talent
Alajbegovic remains officially on Leverkusen’s books but gained valuable experience during a loan spell at RB Salzburg last season. The teenager, who will not turn 19 until September, demonstrated his potential with 13 goals and four assists across 44 competitive appearances for the Austrian club. These contributions have evidently attracted attention from Serie A, with Atalanta now leading the race for his signature.
National teammate consulted
An indication of the advanced nature of discussions came with reports that Alajbegovic has spoken with compatriot Sead Kolasinac regarding a potential switch to Italy. Kolasinac, who joined Atalanta in the summer of 2023, has apparently advised the youngster on the challenges and opportunities of life in Bergamo and Serie A generally.
Negotiations ongoing
Despite the progress represented by the fresh €25m offer, the transfer remains incomplete. Atalanta must decide whether to meet Leverkusen’s valuation or negotiate further to secure the services of the promising winger before the window closes.
